Here are some steps to help you get started. I’m happy to walk you through this process, just get in touch.
Step One: Assessing your needs
You may wish to start by downloading my free Website Planner. Completing this document will walk you through the process of articulating your needs and when you’re done you can send it to me so I will clearly understand your project requirements.
Step Two: register a domain name
I recommend registering domains with Namespro. It is good to choose a short brandable name. In most cases, I recommend registering both the .ca and the .com if they are available.
Namespro includes one free email address per domain name. If you require more, plans are available.
Step Three: sign-up for web hosting
WPCloud.ca, WPEngine, Flywheel or SiteGround are my top hosting recommendations for WordPress Managed Hosting. They offer WordPress hosting, your site will be safer from hacking and faster than with shared hosting. If you need some help, give me a call. I would be happy to help you choose.
I’ll need you to send me the login information for the domain registrar and the hosting company so that I can point the domain to the host. File all this information so you can find it easily when you need it again.
Step Four: Create a Site Map & Wireframe
If you skipped the Website Planner from step one please prepare a sitemap. This free tool will help you create your sitemap.
You could even go to the next level and create your own wireframe (a simple visual guide that represents the framework of a website). I recommend that you use Mockingbird, a free online wireframing tool. The sitemap and wireframe process will help you recognize the different page elements that your site needs.
