WordCamp Toronto Day 2 – Trailmeme for WordPress

A big THANK YOU goes out to Matthew Yuill and Melissa Feeney and the WordCamp volunteers for all their hard work organizing WordCamp Toronto 2010. Thanks also to the sponsors.

Some of my WordCamp Toronto friends (@DawnComber, @AngelaWills, @PamelaWeir, and @JoanVinallCox) weren’t able to make it to Day 2.  This post will let them know what they missed.

Day 2 offered some great sessions: SEO with Brad Gosse and Trailmeme for WordPress.  Brad’s SEO presentation is available for download on his website.  You’ll find great photos from WCTO2010 on Flickr - as well as an awful picture of me asking Brad Gosse a question about duplicate content. Michael Banovsky has also posted notes from his WordCamp talk Blogging at the Core of Brand Building.

Trailmeme for WordPress - This was really cool.

Trailmeme is a new kind of Web publishing that you can use to create a trail of content on a specific topic that’s interesting to you. You can also read other peoples’ trails and walk them to keep up with any updates they make.

Trailmeme for WordPress (TM4WP) is a plugin that allows bloggers to blaze trails through blog content and provide users with useful navigation maps, drive traffic to quality older content, and allow 1-click PDF creation from trails.

You can see an example of trailmeme in action with the  WordCamp Toronto trail. Mouse over an item in a trail you can see editorial comments that describe the trail link. Click on the start walking button or on a specific item in the trail.

What won the biggest wow at WordCamp was the one click pdf generator.  This tool is from Xerox so it’s no surprise that they made it print-friendly.

I enjoy interacting with other WordPress fans at WordCamps and look forward to WordCamp Toronto 2011.  If you attended WordCamp make sure that you complete the survey to give the organizers your feedback.

I’m glad you enjoyed my little chat at WordCamp and thanks for the link love. I feel like I missed the best part of the conference (i.e. the mingling) by having to run out so early.

Thanks for the recap Ruth! I’m sorry I missed day too, looked like there were some great sessions. I heard you talking about another Wordcamp next month somewhere else? Where was that one?

    Nice seeing you again!
