iGoogle – Start here to organize your Tools

I received this by email from a client this week:
“Your new site New Media Marketing is great! Very helpful! I read almost everything there under the New Media 101 topic. Which leads me to a question for you. How can I blog, Facebook, Twitter, read pertinent internet stuff to twitter and blog about with out totally feeling I’ve been sucked into a non-productive hole!? “

I’m hearing this a lot lately and I believe that a good place to start is by setting up an iGoogle personalized start page. A personalized start page is a place were you can collect, organize and share your online information. You’ll want to add google gagets for the tools you use so you can check your email, keep logged in to Facebook, preview your RSS feeds with a Google reader gadget, read the news headlines, see the weather forcast, access your google analytics account, search YouTube, keep a to-do-list, and more…

Let’s get started!

1. create a free google account
2. go to www.google.com/ig and login to your account
3. set your browser to make this your new home page
4. click “add stuff’”, search Google Gadgets to find a tool you want to use then click add it now, when you return to your igoogle page the gadget will be there
5. drag and drop things to move them around
6. add tabs to left column if you want to add more tools
7. select a theme – you can keep the classic Google theme, or choose from many themes, choose a theme for a cause, choose a theme by an artist, or even create your own theme.
