Digg it! – FIVE tips for getting started

how-to-get-digg-front-page-trafficWHAT IS DIGG?
Digg is a social news site where Internet users, not site editors, determine site content.   If you run a blog you can submit your own blog posts as stories and encourage others to  vote for or “digg it”. When people “digg” your story they are moving it higher up in Digg’s results.  The stories with the most diggs are featured on the home page.  Like other social networking sites, Digg permits member comments.  Gone are the days when you had to write a letter to the editor which may or may not be published to express your opinion on a story.

Visit digg.com, create an account and start digging.

Here are a FIVE  tips for getting started with Digg:

  1. Be original: Don’t submit a blog post that is rehashing a larger news story already on the web… submit a blog or story if it is your original content
  2. Get social: Digg is a social network so make friends with members who share your interests.  You will be able to see when members of your network have “dugg” a story and presumably that will be a story that will interest you as well
  3. Use the Tools: Using toolbars will help you easily start digging. Add a Digg Toolbar to your browser (get the FF toolbarDiggbar is expected very soon) and a google gaget to your iGoogle page
  4. Join in: that’s  what social networking is all about.  Take time to Digg other stories and leave a comment
  5. Get noticed: Use an avatar to help your story stand out in the sea of stories and write titles and descriptions that encourage a click and a digg.
