LinkedIn is a social networking site for business professionals. You can create a professional profile for yourself as an online resume at linkedin.com. When you complete your profile you will want to include past companies, education, affiliations, and activities. Facebook profiles tend to be more personal and not nearly as detailed about work history as LinkedIn profiles. LinkedIn is the new media equivalent of the recommendation letter – former employers, colleagues and co-workers can post recommendations on your profile.
It is a good idea to promote your LinkedIn profile by including a link to your profile as part of an email signature. The added benefit is that the link enables people to see all your credentials. Make sure your LinkedIn page includes a link to your web site and blog.
